Cabrillo Music Theatre has new director

Veteran director Lewis Wilkenfeld of Los Angeles has been appointed artistic director for Cabrillo Music Theatre. The group presents musical productions at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

“Lewis Wilkenfeld is an enormously accomplished director and highly respected professional,” said Carole Nussbaum, the theatre’s CEO. “It is a privilege and a pleasure to be working with Lewis. He brings over 25 years of theatre experience to our company. His artistic vision will catapult us to an extraordinarily dynamic 2006 to 2007 season.”

Wilkenfeld’s credentials include his nine productions for Cabrillo: “Annie,” “West Side Story,” “Carousel,” “Bye Bye Birdie!” (Ventura County Production of the Year), “Secret Garden,” “Funny Girl,” “Gypsy!” “Oklahoma!” and “Guys and Dolls.” Wilkenfeld’s direction of “The Wizard of Oz,” starring Cathy Rigby at the La Mirada Civic Theatre, earned him a Drama-Logue Award for best director and best production.

This summer, Wilkenfeld will direct and produce “The Music Man” for Cabrillo.
