To bring in the new year, the Unity Center Church of Thousand Oaks will host a special “burning bowl” ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sun., Jan. 1 at Gold Coast Plaza, 1414 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Suite 109, Thousand Oaks.

This service consists of writing on a piece of paper conditions or events that participants would like to release with the old year and burning them to make a fresh start. The public is invited to attend this free event, which will feature prayer ministers and special music.

“This ritual provides a sacred way to release old, unwanted conditions or events in our lives and clear the way for new beginnings,” said the Rev. Mary Lacalle, who will be the officiating minister.

United Center Church is a loving and accepting community that encourages personal growth through prayer and the acknowledgement of God in everyday life.

The church has been in the Conejo Valley for more than five years and hosts a worship service every Sunday at 10 a.m.
