Here’s what to do with your Christmas tree, old electronics

Disposing of holiday trees and old electronics in Thousand Oaks should be an easy process, according to city officials.

Trees can be put out on the curb on normal trash pickup days. Trees should be free of lights, ornaments and tinsel. It is suggested that large trees be cut in half and placed in yard trimming waste containers.

“Residents don’t have to do that, but it does make it easier for the hauler,” said Nancy Arrieta, assistant analyst in the city’s Public Works Department. The trees will be mulched and used as compost or mulch throughout the city. Some will be used in the city landfill to reduce garbage odors.

Electronic waste can be brought to the city’s storage yard from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays Jan. 7 and Feb. 4 but an appointment must be made. Call (805) 449-SAVE and leave your name, address and phone number. The storage yard is located at 1993 Rancho Conejo Blvd. The dropoff program is open to residents of Thousand Oaks and unincorporated areas of Ventura County.
