Expert to speak on medieval sorcery, witchcraft, forklore

Dr. Sabina Magliocco, author and associate professor of Anthropology at Cal State University Northridge, will speak at Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) and school-to-career students in the Conejo Valley Unified School District at 7:30 p.m., Mon., Dec. 19 in the Performing Arts Center at Newbury Park High School.

Magliocco is a recipient of the Guggenheim National Endowment for the Humanities, Fulbright and Hewlett fellowships and is a renowned expert in the field of Western folklore. He will speak on “Medieval sorcery: a history of European witchcraft and folklore, including J.K. Rowling’s foundation for Harry Potter.”

This lecture is the first of a series of seminars aimed at providing academic enrichment and career exploration opportunities to GATE students and schoolto-career programs throughout the school district. Students and faculty at all district high schools are welcome. The lecture is free and open to those with school ID.
