County artists invited to compete

Buenaventura Art Association of Ventura is calling for artists in its 20th annual open competition. The show is open to all Ventura County artists. Cash prizes and awards will be given to winners.

Entries will be accepted at the gallery at 700 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sun. and Mon., Jan. 8 and 9. The competition will be judged by Ralph Waterhouse of Waterhouse Gallery in Santa Barbara. Originally from England, Waterhouse is a painter and gallery owner whose paintings have been described as having a feeling of serenity that reflects his love of the natural environment.

The show will be mounted from Jan. 10 to Feb. 4 with a public reception/award ceremony from 4 to 7 p.m. Sat., Jan. 14. For information call (805) 648-1235 or visit the gallery’s website at www.buenaventuragallery.org.
