You don’t have to be proud of the things you’re thankful for

This year we’re thankful that:

•Our extended dysfunctional family gets together only once or twice a year.

•Overeating is a tradition on Thanksgiving.

•The never-ending “When I was kid” stories from Uncle Harry only have to be tolerated at family reunions or at Thanksgiving.

•Turkey makes us sleepy enough to sneak away and take a nap.

•Football games serve as a distraction from listening to that all-too-talkative family member who constantly shares about her depression and hypochondria.

•We can all get in line at 5:30 a.m. the morning after Thanksgiving (and wait even longer in cashregister lines) just to save $5 on a few DVDs.

•Despite nearly 200 cable or satellite stations, we can still say “There’s nothing on” and then reach for a good book.

•MP3s, iPods and personal CD players enable teenagers to listen to loud music––while sparing the rest of us who like good music.

•The kids are involved in extracurricular activities at school. (We’re not so thankful, however, that the cost of those activities would pay for a trip to Europe.)

We’re also grateful for our faith, our families, our country, our freedom, and pets, fireplaces, sports, leftovers and half-price DVDs, even if we have to stand in line to get them.
