Oaks Christian (7-0) at Bishop Diego (5-3) Simi Valley (5-3) at Agoura (5-3)
PATRICK SHELBY/Acorn Newspapers ESCAPING TROUBLE—Thousand Oaks quarterback Ryan Cloney tries to avoid Agoura defensive lineman Justin Meade during the Chargers’ 30-7 victory over the Lancers last Friday night. Outlook: Bishop Diego would sure love to extract revenge on the Lions after OCHS manhandled them, 56-0, last season.
The problem is Oaks Christian is probably better now than they were when the two teams matched up in 2004.
By averaging a cool 54.6 points per game thus far, the Lion offense continues to hit on all cylinders.
But it’s been the play of the OCHS defense that has helped Oaks Christian become the No. 4-ranked team in California by MaxPreps.com.
The unit is allowing an average of 9.4 points per game and has
not allowed more than 14 points
in any contest so far this season.
Outlook: The winner of this game heads into the final week of the regular season with its playoffs hopes still alive.
The loser won’t be around for the postseason. It’s a simple as that for both schools.
Agoura may have played its finest all-around game of the season against Thousand Oaks last weekend.
Led by quarterback Dominick Huerta’s 316 passing yards and more than 200 combined receiving yards from J.T. Wright and Orel Tagai, the Chargers jumped all over T.O. and never looked back.
They’ll need a similar effort against the talented Pioneers, who are hoping to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1991.
