Award-winning 17-year-old pianist to perform Chopin

Nov. 11 event at the Scherr Forum will feature Sean Chen of Oak Park

Multiple award-winning pianist Sean Chen, 17, of Oak Park will perform during the Chopin Project which begins at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Nov. 11 in the Scherr Forum Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.

The event will open at 6:30 p.m. with a panel of pianists and music professors discussing Frederic Chopin’s life, works and current performance practices. Local piano teacher Edward Francis will moderate the discussion by Wojciech Kocyan (Loyola University), Francoise Regnat (CSUN) and Peter Yazbeck (UCSB).

The first recital of Chopin’s ballades and scherzos will be at 7 p.m., performed by Kyung Lee, Ornela Ervin, Michael Williams and Michael Preddy.

Chen, who participated in the 2005 International Chopin competition in Warsaw and is a student of Francis’, will give a recital at 8:30 p.m.
