Vote no on the stealth governor’s Props. 74, 75, 76 Where is the man who said he would lead California in a new way and with new leadership? The man who was going to bring openness to politics and plain speaking to its people? Hiding out, that’s where. He sneaks into unplanned events, open only the preselected few who are prescreened, so there won’t be any embarrassing questions. He was in and out of my neighborhood in Thousand Oaks last week, and it wasn’t until I read about it the next day in the newspaper that I even knew. I want to call him a “girly man,” but that is insulting to both the women and men that I work with every day in the Moorpark Unified School District—teachers working hard to educate our students. I want to call him a chicken, but that would be insulting to chickens, which are at least willing to mix it up with other chickens. I was standing out on the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Moorpark Road this week, holding up my “No on Props. 74, 75 and 76” poster, talking with people, waving to the passing cars, hearing and seeing the honks and waves of support and also the few less friendly hand signs of those opposed. But I am out there, Governor, where are you? Going to your $10,000-a-plate fundraisers with the big corporations? Anyone who is supposed to represent all the citizens and is so afraid of his silly propositions that he won’t come out and talk about or debate them with all of us doesn’t deserve our support. It’s time to vote no on 74, 75 and 76 and to reconsider his future as our governor. Will Donley Thousand Oaks |
