WHS girls’ volleyball squad takedown Moorpark in three games The Westlake girls’ volleyball team proved to be too much for the visiting Moorpark Musketeers to handle Tuesday night, as the Warriors downed Moorpark in three highly-contested games (26-24, 25-21, 25-22). Kelsey Kaehler had 14 assists and two digs for Westlake. Alex Johnson added three aces, nine digs and 17 kills, and Cathy Quilico chipped in with 20 assists and 18 digs for the Warriors. “Our passing was pretty good,” Quilico said. “Our serve-receive and our hits and our sets were good, too. Everything was working really well tonight, I thought.” Danielle Hermansen led Moorpark with 17 kills, five aces and 11 digs. Kristin Lombardo had 29 digs and Emma Stanley added 29 assists and five digs for the Musketeers. “They have amazing hitters and they were putting the ball away like crazy,” Hermansen said. “We played the best we could, but we did seem a little flat. (Westlake) is really good though.” With the victory, Westlake improved its overall record to 173 on the year, including a 9-1 mark in the Marmonte League. The Warriors are currently one game behind first-place Thousand Oaks (12-1, 10-0) in the league standings. T.O. beat Westlake in three games on Oct. 11, but the Warriors will have a shot at redemption against the Lancers at home in the final game of the regular season on Nov. 3. Moorpark saw its record fall to 13-7 with the loss. The Musketeers are currently in third place in the Marmonte with a 6-4 league record. Westlake has a road contest against Calabasas tonight before Friday’s rematch against the Musketeers at Moorpark. Friday’s game had to be postponed from its original date because of the wildfires.
