Spurgin named to new post

Jay Spurgin has been named deputy public works director for the city of Thousand Oaks. The announcement was made during Monday night’s planning commission meeting.

Spurgin, a longtime resident of Newbury Park, is former engineering division manager for the city. His appointment is part of a shuffling of several city employees since the departure of former City Manager Phil Gatch last spring.

Spurgin replaces Mark Watkins, who was appointed public works director last month.

“Jay brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm,” Watkins said. “He is dedicated to public service and to the community.”
