Celebrate World Community Day

The Conejo Unit of Church Women United invites the community to join them at 9:30 a.m. Fri., Nov. 4 for fellowship and at 10 a.m. for a World Community Day service at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 1360 S. Wendy Drive, Newbury Park.

Unit President Evelyn Colby will conduct a short business meeting and Winnie Keyser, vice president, will lead the program.

World Community Day (WCD) is an annual celebration observed as a common worship experience to lift up peace and cooperation among nations.

This year the WCD focus is on media technology and the call to be truth-seekers in local communities and throughout the world. The program encourages looking at personal perceptions of good and evil. Are surface realities the true realities? To reflect the light of Christ, Christians look within themselves before looking out to the world.

The title of the celebration worship is “A Light to the Nations.” The service includes responsive litanies, music, interactive discussions and a candlelight ceremony.

The Fellowship of the Least Coin will be observed. The Least Coin is a global movement that seeks to instill peace and reconciliation for families, work places, the nation and the world through prayer and setting aside the least coin, a penny.
