Annual event to take hikers from Newbury Park to the ocean

The Conejo Recreation & Park District Outdoor Unit and the Outdoor Advisory Council will host the annual “Sycamore to the Sea” hike from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., Nov. 5 departing from Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa in Newbury Park.

“Sycamore to the Sea” is an 8½-mile hike from Newbury Park to the Pacific Ocean through Sycamore Canyon. Participants will travel along tree-lined trails that offer expansive views of the native landscape and periodic wildlife sightings. The pace and terrain make the hike suitable for families.

Once participants reach Sycamore Cove State Beach, they are invited to enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the beach, have lunch, then catch a shuttle ride back to Newbury Park.

The cost is $20 per person and includes lunch and shuttle service. Outdoor Unit Hike leaders will be available to guide hikers down the trails and to share their knowledge of the flora and fauna in the canyon. Participants may also hike at their own pace.

All proceeds from this event will be used to maintain and expand the Outdoor Unit’s collection of taxidermy animals and to support outdoor education programs in the community. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. For registration information call the Conejo Community Center at (805) 495-2163.
