National Alliance for the Mentally Ill to present education program

The 12-week free course is scheduled to run on Thursdays beginning Oct. 6

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) of Ventura County will sponsor the Family-toFamily Educational Program designed for family members and significant others of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness. The 12week series of classes is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Oct. 6 in room 2108 at Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village.

The course will discuss schizophrenia, mood disorders, major depression, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder and will present coping skills, recovery and rehabilitation, information about medications and techniques for listening, communication and self-care.

The curriculum has been written by an experienced mental health professional and will be taught by NAMI volunteers who have taken training as course instructors.

The course is free, but registration is required.
