City does its part to help Katrina victims

We can be proud that the city of Thousand Oaks will give $250,000 to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It says a lot about our city.

It tells the world that we care.

We share a spirit of generosity. The council’s action shows that in Conejo Valley, compassion and empathy are a first priority.

It’s obvious that our council members not only know the Golden Rule, they’re also willing to live by it. Special recognition goes to Councilmen Andy Fox and Dennis Gillette for leading the way in upping the ante.

In a matter of minutes, the Thousand Oaks donation was nearly doubled.

The city is in excellent financial condition. The money is desperately needed and we’re confident it will be spent wisely. We hope other municipalities will respond accordingly and donate whatever they can.

Hurricane Katrina is a national tragedy that motivated our city council and staff to cut through the red tape and act quickly.

Government can work when people put their heads together and take action instead of micromanaging and spinning their tires in endless debate.

In the wake of Katrina, the council members and city staff have done well for the people of T.O.

It’s more fun, by the way, talking about what’s right with government than criticizing and second-guessing.

There’s enough of that on the national and state levels.
