Thousand Oaks festival will celebrate work of local artists

Learning to play Learning to play The second annual Thousand Oaks Arts Festival will celebrate the region’s visual and performing arts talent on Sat. and Sun., Sept. 17 and18 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza’s Mary and Richard Carpenter Plaza Park, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

As the event’s honorary chair, actress and artist Jane Seymour will exhibit her watercolors and oil paintings throughout the weekend, while more than 50 local artists and leading performance groups are expected to exhibit their work.

“From artists and performers to parents and children, celebrities, corporate sponsors and art enthusiasts, the Thousand Oaks Arts Festival unites the community for a weekend of fun and support for the local art community,” said Mindy Miller, event coordinator.

The festival promotes regional painters, photographers, sculptors and other visual artists who will exhibit their artwork for show and to sell.

Admission to the festival is free and includes continuous performances in the park by local music, theatre and dance groups.

In addition, children are invited to participate at no cost in expanded hands-on artistic and interactive activities, such as creating computer art with the Creativity Workshop, mixing music with mAudio and Line6, designing animation and learning about music with the New West Symphony’s Instruments “Petting Zoo.”

Alliance for the Arts and The Art Den will sponsor the Children’s Art Experience where children can experiment with pastels, pattern-making and other fine art activities.
