Academy to offer classes in preparation for Jewish holidays

The Conejo Jewish Academy will offer a series of classes in preparation for the upcoming Jewish holidays. This special preholiday semester will help participants gain a better understanding of the meaning and tradition of the holidays. Among the classes are the following.

“Days of Awe, Days of Joy.” This class looks at the deeper meaning and the Kabbalistic themes of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah and will be presented at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 6, 13 and 20.

“Hebrew in Four Easy Lessons.” This beginner’s course will teach participants how to read Hebrew at 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 6.

“The Liturgy of the High Holidays” is a study of the meaning of the prayers of the High Holiday Prayer Book, the Machzor. Rabbi Aaron Shaffier will teach this class at 8 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 7.

Classes require a $10 fee and will be at the Academy, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. For registration or additional details, call (818) 991-0991.

Free classes to be offered include “The Holiday Essentials,” a guide through the traditions and practices of the holidays at 8 p.m. Thursdays (call for specific dates); “Waters of Eden,” an introductory course for women only on the laws of Mikvah (8 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 19 and 26); and “The Sanctity of Marriage,” a women’s study group that will meet in a private Agoura Hills home beginning Fri., Sept. 9.

Also offered free and open to the public is “Lunch ’N Learn with Rabbi Bryski” at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 7. The class will study the Jewish Code of Ethics.
