Please slow down on development

It has come to my attention that the city council has recently voted to build 21 new houses (July 21 T.O. Acorn, “Planning commissioners narrowly approve permits for development”). The area that is going to play host to these houses just happens to be a very recreational one.

I constantly see people walking their dogs, taking a hike, jogging, and most often biking there.

These grounds are a favorite spot of many bikers, including me, that like to trail ride and jump. They also provide a way to avoid that dangerous curve on Reino Road.

This is also a place to get away from the city, if you know what I mean. The people that have ridden there for a while usually call the array of jumps and trails the Bunny Slopes. Newcomers call it The Albertsons Jumps.

Also, this town is becoming overcrowded. Do we really need more houses? I’ve lived here for four years and all I’ve seen is expansion. Houses are being built on every square foot of land––it’s ridiculous.

I’ve seen many snakes, rabbits, lizards, birds and other rodents running around in there. Do you really want to kick them out of their natural habitat to make room for more of us?

Think about it.

Personally I think the council has made a big mistake and I hope they will rethink their decision. Do you want new citizens or do you want the well-being of our current citizens?

Please don’t build the houses. Eric Redner, age 12 Newbury Park
