Ships to dock in Oxnard
Eight tall ships from around the world will converge on Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard for the Tall Ships Festival Friday through Mon., Aug. 5 to 8. Activities offered for all ages during the ships’ visit will include dockside tours of the Coast Guard vessel Black Tip as well as the tall ships, battle reenactment sails, maritime-themed educational programs, live entertainment, encounters with pirates and swashbucklers and much more.
The historic events (battle reenactment sails and Civil War reenactments) will be presented by the Washington Artillery of New Orleans Reenactors-War Between the States Historical Society, a nonprofit educational association.
There will be activities for kids, an artists’ market, exhibits and food and beverage booths.
The visiting ships are the Talofa, Lynx, R. Tucker Thompson, Bill of Rights, Royaliste, Kaisei, Ka’lulani and the Californian. For a complete description and background on each vessel, visit the website at www.tallshipschannelislands.com.
