Pepperdine announces 2005-06 performance lineup

Pepperdine University Center for the Arts in Malibu has announced its lineup of performances for 2005-06.

The season begins Tues., Aug. 23 with pioneering jazz pianist Dave Brubeck and his quartet.

For comedy lovers, Lily Tomlin will appear on Jan. 27 and John Cleese on Feb. 14.

Among the musicians and musical groups on the season roster will be a country trio of three sisters, SHeDaisy, on Sept. 30, Keb’ Mo’ on Oct. 28, Christopher Cross on Jan. 28 and Manhattan Transfer on March 9.

Jazz/standards singer Steve Tyrell will appear on Sept. 24 and Jazz at Lincoln Center will present its tribute to the music of Miles Davis on May 7.

For fans of dance and world music, Pepperdine will present Ballet Flamenco Jose Porcel on Oct. 26, Children of Uganda on Feb. 28 and Natalie MacMaster on April 28.

Tony Award-winning baritone Brian Stokes Mitchell will sing on Oct. 23, while soprano Dale Kristien and Tony Award-winning tenor Michael Maguire will team up for an evening of Broadway love songs on Feb. 11.

This season will mark the debut of a new series called Kids’ Playhouse, programmed for children ages 4 to 8. The Saturday matinees include “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” on Oct. 8, “The Rainbow Fish” on Feb. 11, “The Berenstein Bears on Stage!” on March 4 and “Charlotte’s Web” on April 22.

All performances are in the Smothers Theatre on the campus at 24255 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu.
