Former publisher at Star takes helm of San Francisco Examiner

John P. Wilcox, a former publisher of the Ventura County Star and former member of the California Newspaper Publishers Association’s board of directors, will become publisher of the San Francisco Examiner in August. He will leave his job as president, publisher and CEO of the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

“I am excited to be joining one of the nation’s most progressive newspapers in my home state of California. The Examiner is in the early stages of creating newspapers to fit the 21st century,” Wilcox said.

In addition to the Examiner and Independent newspapers, Wilcox will manage the paper’s other assets, including Anschutz Printing Co. in San Francisco.
