What’s next, burning books?

I am a parent of two children in the Conejo Valley Unified School District and I am frankly quite shocked that there is any controversy regarding one sentence in one textbook that is completely harmless.

We are all entitled to our opinions, but it is our duty as “grownups” to teach tolerance to our children and not to continue to promote the hatred that is so prevalent in this country at this time. The sentence in question does not promote homosexuality and just states a fact that is true in our society.

Mr. Dunn said, “These are not naive little kids,” and he is right. By the ninth grade, these kids are fully aware of what homosexuality is and how they feel about it. Censoring their textbooks isn’t going to change that.

How sad that we are turning into a frightened society so full of disdain for what we don’t believe in or agree with.
