In defense of Save the Conejo Poor Mr. Turpel, I guess he forgot to wear his “Civility Matters” button when he wrote his letter blasting Debbie Gregory and Save the Conejo. I seem to remember him as one of the organizers of a failed recall against former Councilwoman Eloise Zeanah. He and his group brought in some homeless veterans to gather signatures and, lo and behold, this measure made it onto the ballot even though many of the signatures were from people who didn’t live or vote in Thousand Oaks. Gee, that sounds vaguely similar to the people who were writing letters supporting the FIG (Fox, Irwin and Gillette) when the city manager was replaced. Boy, there were a lot of fairy tales there—all of the letters sounded so similar, and now it has been discovered that some of the authors don’t really live in Thousand Oaks. Also, the individual that Mr. Turpel is defending admitted in another newspaper that she lives in Moorpark but wants to stay “involved” in Thousand Oaks—I guess she was confused when she listed her city of residence incorrectly. Well, I just returned home from a trip down T.O. Boulevard (where mixed-use housing is planned) and saw all of the “casino architecture” next to the Civic Arts Plaza. When I was driving up Lynn Road, I was passed by several oversized SUVs with BushCheney stickers on the back that were going way over the speed limit. Maybe Howard Dean and Save the Conejo don’t sound so bad after all. Merle Duckett Thousand Oaks |
