Council critics should get a life

2005-07-07 / Letters

It appears many of us in the community have struck a nerve in a member of “Save the Conejo.”

Recently, the usual dissidents went over the top in some of their insults and denigration of our city council members. While most of the speakers and letter writers do not respond to this negativism, we thought it was time to show our support.

I believe in representative government. We elect our council representatives based on our philosophy. We watch them from our living rooms and if we disagree, we let them know.

I love this wonderful city and have known and respected all the councils that were elected back in 1964 until the present. Many of us spoke at this council meeting to show our support of the council members and in return, we’re being criticized for speaking out.

I for one would like to know why the mayor allows her campaign manager to use public comments to attempt to humiliate another member of our community.

As I listen to the city clerk before every meeting, she states that the public portion of the meeting is for items before the council. It is not to criticize an intelligent, remarkable businesswoman. All who know Jill Lederer know her for her integrity and loyalty. I am sure many organizations and charities would agree.

Public comments are for city business. I can assure you that while many of us watch at home, we are becoming increasingly tired of the same few naysayers at every meeting.

Maybe it is time they get a life. Virginia Davis Thousand Oaks
