Clean Up and Recycling Day a success

On May 28, during the Memorial Day weekend, the city of Thousand Oaks sponsored its 22nd annual Community Clean Up and Recycling Day at Conejo Creek Park South.

As with past events, the day was a huge success as material from a record number of area residents was collected, of which a large portion will either be recycled or reused as charitable donations.

This year’s event was especially well attended, serving 2,100 residents and collecting more than 350 tons of material, including 32 tons of electronic waste to be recycled or refurbished, 22 tons of concrete to be recycled, 35 tons of green waste ground up for use as mulch, 56 tons of scrap metal for recycling and about six tons of goods donated to Goodwill Industries.

Thank you to all of the city staff and to the companies who, because of the efforts and commitment of their employees, ensured the tremendous success of this year’s event: G.I. Industries/ Waste Management, Newbury Disposal/Harrison Industries, Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center, Goodwill Industries and PSC Environmental Company. Their cooperation enables this event to occur successfully each year. Thank you for a job well done.

To all Thousand Oaks residents, be sure to mark your calendars for the next Free Disposal Day at the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center on Sept. 18. For details, call (805) 449-2400 or visit the city’s website at www.toaks.org. Claudia Bill-de la Peña Mayor, Thousand Oaks
