CRPD to give pet health classes Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) invites dog and cat lovers to learn more about their best friend’s health through pet classes to be offered at the Hillcrest Center, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. “Pet Care, the Senior Petizen” is part one of a two-part class from 7 to 9 p.m. Wed., July 20. This section teaches owners the specific needs of older pets and how to care for them. Topics include exercise, nutrition and preventative measures. Part two is “Dental Care for Your Pet” and provides instruction about pet teeth, signs and symptoms of poor oral hygiene, what causes it and what can be done about it. Learn how to clean your pet’s teeth. “Pet First Aid” will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sat., Aug. 6. The program includes pet CPR, rescue breathing, choking management, wellness assessment, heat injuries, poisoning, bleeding protocols, bites and stings, and injury assessment. The instructor for both classes is Marion Wagstaff, a certified Pet Tech Instructor. The cost for “Pet Care” and “Dental Care” is $24. The “Pet First Aid” course will cost $33. Out-of-district participants will be charged an additional 20 percent in-lieu-of-tax fee. Enrollment in both classes is limited to 15 students age 16 and up. Each participant receives a handbook and, upon successful completion of the class, a certificate. Owners may not bring their pets to the classes.
