Senior volunteers needed
Senior adults are invited to make a difference in their community by sharing their time, skills and energy to help local residents. Conejo Valley Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is recruited men and women, ages 55 and over, to volunteer at a wide variety of local nonprofit agencies.
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum needs volunteer docents for the late fall opening of the new Air Force One Pavilion. Docents must be able to work four hours per week and be physically able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Shop Ahoy provides weekly grocery shopping and delivery service for elderly and/or disabled homebound local residents. Volunteers are needed to take telephone orders, shop at Vons Market on Moorpark Road and deliver orders to the customer.
RSVP volunteers are now available to assist residents with their homeowner’s or renter’s rebate on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon through Aug. 25 at the Goebel Senior Adult Center. No appointments are necessary.
Qualified individuals can receive a portion of their rent or property taxes in the form of a rebate. To qualify, applicants must have met the following criteria as of Dec. 31, 2004: 62 years of age or older, blind or disabled; lived in one’s own home or qualified rented residence in California; paid $50 or more per month rent on the residence; received a total household income of about $38,500 or less, including Social Security.
Applicants must bring a copy of their federal income tax return and SSA 1099 (Social Security benefits). In addition, renters need to bring their landlord’s name, address and phone number. Homeowners need to bring a copy of their property tax bill. Proof of age is also required in the form of a driver’s license, birth certificate, baptism certificate, passport or Social Security acceptance letter.
