Festive event to salute two dedicated citizens
Longtime supporters of the Stagecoach Inn Museum, Bob Rickards and Diana Malmquist, will be honored at the 40th annual La Fiesta del Triunfo Ball, a fundraiser for the museum and Conejo Valley Historical Society scheduled for Sat., July 23 at the museum, 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park.
A 37-year resident of Thousand Oaks, Rickards is a retired city planner for Thousand Oaks and an architect. He’s also a painter of note, specializing in depictions of Western scenes. A series of paintings on the Lewis and Clark expedition was exhibited recently at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley and across the U.S.
Rickards’ activity in many Conejo Valley philanthropic organizations includes his current 23-year stint as a member of the Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club, where he’s served in many different capacities at various special events. Recently, Rickards was awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the California-Nevada-Hawaii Kiwanis International District. He and his wife, Jane, have two daughters, Shannae and Jennifer, and three grandchildren.
Malmquist has lived in Conejo Valley for 40 years and was an early supporter of the Stagecoach Inn Museum, donating antiques and involved in fundraising after the museum burned down.
Among the many local organizations she’s provided support for is the Wellness Community Valley/Ventura in Westlake Village. She worked to raise funds to open the Wellness Community and later founded the Holiday Homes Tour, its signature fundraising event.
Malmquist has been the recipient of numerous awards from the cities of Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks, the county of Ventura, the Conejo/ Las Virgenes Future Foundation and other organizations. Malmquist has also given service to the Westlake Village Library, the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, Casa Pacifica, the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, the Westlake Village Civic Center, Conejo Valley Days and more. Currently Malmquist works for United Way. She’s the mother of Christian, Robin and Mark.
La Fiesta del Triunfo Ball will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, tours of the museum and living history presentations. A barbecue buffet dinner provided by the Kiwanis Club will be at 6:30 p.m.
At 7:30 p.m., the evening’s honorees, Rickards and Malmquist, saluted as “Don and Dona Triunfo,” will be recognized. Entertainment in the form of line dancing and country-western dancing will cap off the evening beginning at 8:15 p.m.
The reservation deadline for tickets is Fri., July 15. The cost is $85. Guests are encouraged to wear Western attire or Spanish Rancho costumes.
