Westlake Village should consider what it’s doing to the community I have lived at Renaissance Homeowners Association for more than seven years. My reasons for moving to Westlake Village were very clear. I could look around during the day and see mountains surrounding me. At night I could look up and see the stars. Around me were beautiful oak trees instead of mini strip malls and big box stores, and quiet as I went to sleep at night and as I awoke each morning. Last but not least, there was very little traffic. This was a big change from living in the San Fernando Valley. But in the time I have lived here, I have seen all the reasons why I moved here change. Now when I look to the south, I don’t see mountains, but I do see a huge 89-foot-tall steel structure obliterating my view, which will become the Dole Spa and Hotel. At night the stars are no longer visible due to the obtrusive lights of Oaks Christian sports fields that are on even if there aren’t any sports going on. I sadly watched as they removed three beautiful large oaks trees, with the blessing of our city council, to make way for a Marriott Residence Inn and two restaurants. I now am lulled to sleep by the obsessive beeping of car horns at Wendy’s and awaken mornings to the sound of delivery trucks at 6 a.m. Traffic will now increase due to the building of Dole, Marriott, two restaurants and the inevitable YMCA, added to the already heavily traveled road to Costco, the Promenade and the North Ranch Gateway Shopping Center. With the stroke of a pen, the city has been changed forever, all in the name of progress. But at what expense? That would be the peace and tranquility that I and I am sure everyone else specifically moved out here for. I respectfully request (the Westlake Village) City Council to please think long and hard before you do any more irreversible damage to our city. Please keep the general plan as stated by the founding city council. Thank you. Cheryl Tabbi Westlake Village |
