Library exhibit to highlight TV shows, motion pictures shot in Conejo Valley

During July, the Thousand Oaks Library will highlight the many films and television series filmed in the Conejo Valley. A month-long exhibit with photos, videos, DVDs, books, posters and other memorabilia will begin Mon., June 27 and continue through Sun., July 31 at the library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

Back in the “old days” when there were fewer buildings and more rolling hills in the Conejo Valley, films like “Adventures of Robin Hood,” “Wuthering Heights” and “Lassie Come Home” were filmed here. Many Wildwood Regional Park ridgelines are easily recognizable.

More recently, the Conejo Valley has become a futuristic planet for “Star Trek: Insurrection,” a northwest suburban town in “Sleepless in Seattle,” and the scene of high school football practices in “Friday Night Lights.” The Thousand Oaks Library owns these and more than 50 other videos and DVDs that have been filmed at least in part in the Conejo Valley. Each of these is specially labeled, shelved in a prominent section of the library during the exhibit and available for check-out. Additionally, there are displays of still photos taken from the film sets and biographies of the staring actors.

The Foundation Gift Store has movie memorabilia items for sale, including posters, jewelry, postcards, videos and DVDs.

There are bookmarks and lists of the movies filmed in the Conejo Valley available for the public, a feature article in the library’s newsletter, The Oakleaf, and a hot link of the library’s website.
