Billboard magazine honored him twice as the New Age Artist of the Year and his albums were nominated for three Grammys.

Liebert’s new album, “La Semana,” features 13 instrumental compositions. The piece “Alhambra Jackson” has roots back to 1987, when Liebert turned more to a flamenco style.

“Someone suggested I incorporate some funk elements into my flamenco playing, and this song is a delayed reaction to that suggestion,” Liebert said.

Regarding the song “La Luna (Lunatic Love Letter),” Liebert said, “This melody just flowed out of my guitar one afternoon—all at once and in one take. It’s one of my favorite tracks on this album. I imagine this song is a love letter.” As for “Cave in My Heart,” Liebert said, “you can hear memories bubble up to the surface like lava in the middle of the song.” The end of the song features bassist Jon Gagan’s fretless bass work through a virtual amp, which creates a cello sound.
