Agoura Hills Dance students capture competition awards

Agoura Hills Dance and Performing Arts Center students won top prizes at the "Thunderstruck" Dance Competition on May 7 in Alta Loma.

The "Workin’ Day N’ Night" tap number received the "lightening gold" and "first place overall" trophy and cash awards. Dancers were Ari Imazu of West Hills, Alex Epstein, Becca Hirsch, Jenna Bermann and Carly Melber of Agoura Hills, and Gina Gilinsky, Rachel Maresca, Hannah Teitelbaum and Rachel Schwartz of Westlake. The students’ performances were choreographed by owner/director Betsy Melber.

Hip hop dance "One Stop Shop," choreographed by Keith "Brim" Junior, won "second place overall" and "lightening gold" Dancers were Hayley Alcroft of Westlake,

Suelay Chang Siloy of Newbury Park, Gail Press of Calabasas and Jenna Bermann, Alexis Burke, Danielle Marin and Christony Chartburut of Agoura Hills.

The following students won gold awards for tap duets choreographed by Melber: Melissa Wabby of Westlake and Madison Reeb of Encino for "Sound Effects" and Carly Melbert and Jamie Samel of Agoura Hills for "Steppin’ Out."

Senior Jazz routine "Scissor Sisters, choreographed by Laura Faulhaber, received gold. Dancers were Brenna Grabowski of Agoura Hills, Alexandra Marks of Thousand Oaks, Melissa Wabby and Alex Epstein.

"Salsa Beat" Junior Tap Quartet, choreographed by Melber, received gold. Dancers were Jamie Samel, Madison Clark of Oak Park, Emma Farrow of Westlake Village and Quinn Miller of Agoura Hills.

Junior Tap Small Group "Toxic," choreographed by Melber, won high silver award. Dancers were Emily Merrill of Westlake Village, Krista Andreassen of Thousand Oaks, Jamie Samel, Madison Clark, Emma Farrow and Quinn Miller.

"Sparkling Diamonds" Junior Jazz Small Group, choreographed by Pia Manalo, earned high silver. Dancers were Katrina Mitchell of Agoura Hills, Carly Melber, Emma Farrow, Madison Clark and Jamie Samel.

Pia Manalo choreographed the Junior Jazz routine "Do You Only Want to Dance?" which received high silver. Dancers were Jenna Bermann, Alex Epstein, Alex Marks, Brenna Grabowski, Carly Melber and Jamie Samel.
