Gardens to host ‘A Taste of Our Town’ "A Taste of Our Town," the annual fundraiser for Ventura County’s Support for the Kids organization, will be presented from 4 to 7 p.m. Sun., May 15 at the Gardens of the World, 2001 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. Nine area restaurants will donate food samplings for guests to enjoy as they stroll through the gardens. Tickets are $75 per person. The event features silent and live auction items, including a walk-on part in a Sony TV show or movie, two American Airlines upper-class North American tickets, dinner for eight at Chapter 8 Steakhouse, a Sterling Ball electric guitar, dinner for 12 at Leo Bunnin’s estate, spa days, baskets and one-of-a-kind donations. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Empowerment Thru Education Program, which provides tutoring for underprivileged and foster children in Ventura, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties. Support for the Kids was founded in 1995 by Lynda Miller. The organization has sponsored Christmas and other holiday parties for 600 children, adopted more than 175 destitute families, provided funding for school and school supplies, introduced children to cultural events and helped support education programs in women’s centers.
