Center adds women’s bone density test Rolling Oaks Radiology and Women’s Center has announced the recent addition of state-of-the-art bone density and body composition assessment into their women’s wellness program, according to head radiologist Robert Princenthal, M.D. "Our wellness package is designed especially for today’s women," Princenthal said. "Traditionally one thinks of mammography and ultrasound exams for women’s health, but rarely does bone density testing for osteoporosis or body composition come to mind." According to the first-ever U.S. Surgeon General’s report on the nation’s bone health, by the year 2020 one out of two Americans over age 50 will be at risk for fractures from osteoporosis. Although there are nearly 44 million Americans who may be affected by osteoporosis, studies referenced by the Surgeon General conclude that only 3 to 23 percent of these high-risk patients have been tested. GE Healthcare, a leader in bone densitometry technology, hopes to raise that percentage with its Lunar- branded product line, including the Lunar Prodigy at Rolling Oaks. "Our patients deserve to have the best diagnostic and monitoring technology available and we definitely provide that with our Lunar Prodigy," said Princenthal. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona has called on healthcare professionals to help Americans maintain healthy bones by evaluating risks for patients of all ages. He recommended bone density exams for women over age 65 and for men or women who suffer even a minor fracture after age 50. |
