Fundraiser helped battered women Fundraiser helped battered women The Building Industry Association-Southern California Women’s Council’s recent annual "Spring Basket Luncheon" at the Westlake Village Inn surpassed other fundraisers in the number of items donated, attendance and revenue. It supported battered women and children’s shelters in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. More than 100 guests donated 65 baskets with items needed by shelters. The baskets varied from straw baskets to strollers, infant car seats, toy wagons and a handmade dollhouse. The Women’s Council raised more than $1,500 from the luncheon, a raffle and a silent auction. These proceeds will fund scholarship and philanthropic endeavors. In attendance at the luncheon were Haven Hills, Inc.; With Love, Grandma, Inc.; Restore; and The Coalition to End Family Violence. The organizations received the donated baskets to distribute to their clients. The Women’s Council will host the Architectural Drafting Competition awards dinner on Wed., May 18 at The Odyssey, Granada Hills. Scholarships will be awarded to students who win first, second and third place in a variety of categories. For more information about the Women’s Council, call Karen Dry at (818) 991-3487.
