Famed author Ray Bradbury to make T.O. appearance

Author Ray Bradbury will make a guest appearance at 7 p.m. Sun., May 22 at the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Recognized as a "master craftsman with words," he is the author of such works as "The Martian Chronicles" and "Fahrenheit 451."

In a literary career spanning six decades, Bradbury has produced a body of work that includes novels, essays, theatrical works, screenplays, teleplays and numerous short story collections. Among his many awards is the National Book Foundation’s 2000 Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

Tickets to "An Evening with Ray Bradbury: Metaphors and Memories" are $10 for members of the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library, students and those 65 years and older; others pay $15. Reservations are required and may be made by calling (805) 497-0291.

Bradbury will donate the proceeds from his appearance to the Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library Endowment Fund. Interest from the fund will be used in perpetuity to help support the Thousand Oaks Library system.

Beginning at 6:15 p.m. as well as after his presentation, Bradbury will autograph books for ticket holders. A selection of his publications will be available for purchase in the library lobby.

Artist Carol Heyer’s fantasy painting of Bradbury as a toddler in a celestial setting will be formally presented to director Steve Brogden during Bradbury’s appearance. Commemorative products incorporating Heyer’s painting will be unveiled and available by special order and offered for sale for a limited time at the library’s gift store.

The Friends of the Platt Library will host "An Evening with Ray Bradbury" at 7 p.m. Tues., May 24 in the multipurpose room of the library, 23600 Victory Blvd., Woodland Hills.

A general meeting of the Friends of the Platt Library will precede Bradbury’s presentation, and refreshments will be served following his talk.
