Cops finish fourth in relay
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department joined with other federal, state, county and local law- enforcement agencies in mid-April in the 21st annual Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay. The department finished in fourth place overall in their category and was the top finisher of all local agencies represented in Ventura County.
Peace officers ran relay teams over a 120-mile desert course that included challenging slopes. Teams from law-enforcement agencies from neighboring states also participated.
Each year, hundreds of volunteers devote their time to assist in the planning, organizing and operation of the relay and other related events. The relay began in 1984 and was organized by members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
More than 220 teams competed this year. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department had 40 runners competing and 25 volunteers who committed their time and effort to provide valuable support to the sheriff’s department’s teams.
