Native American flutist to perform

The National Park Service will present Manny Saenz performing inspirational flute music of the Yoeme/Yaqui tribal cultures in two appearances on Sun., April 24 at the Satwiwa Native American Culture Center, on the grounds of Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa in Newbury Park.

Saenz will play from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m. Both sessions are free. His musical style has its origins in the Yoeme culture. Traditionally the Yoeme/Yaqui tribes are from northern Mexico and the American Southwest region.

"Saenz is inspired by ancient melodies and stories passed down through thousands of years, and interpreted into contemporary expressions of his relationship with the world, making his music very personal and magical," according to National Park Service spokeswoman Jean Bray.

To reach the park, exit the 101 Freeway at Lynn Road and travel south for 5.25 miles to Via Goleta. The park entrance is on the left. Visitors will then walk .3 mile up a gravel road from the parking area to the brown wooden building.
