Auditions open for ‘Bus Stop’

Conejo Players Afternoon Theatre will host auditions for William Inge’s "Bus Stop" at 7:30 p.m. Sun., April 24 through Tues., April 26, with callbacks at the same hour if needed on Wed., April 27 at 351 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.

The show will be performed Saturdays and Sundays from June 25 through July 16.

There will be cold readings of portions of the script provided at the audition. No appointment is necessary, and actors are reminded that there is no pay for their work.

The plot summary is as follows: In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City pulls up at a cheerful roadside diner. All roads are blocked and the handful of weary travelers are stranded there until morning. Cherie, a struggling nightclub chanteuse is being pursued by a young headstrong and belligerent cowboy ready to throw her over his shoulder and carry her off to Montana.

Among the characters to be cast are:

Cherie, a singer (chanteuse) in her 20s, a pretty, confused and fragile young woman who grew up too fast. She wears too much makeup and is from the Ozarks. Her accent is Southern. The actor who plays Cherie will be required to sing in this production of "Bus Stop."

Bo Decker is a 25- to 35-year-old ranch owner. This cowboy can be brash, impulsive, naïve, innocent and simple all at once.

Virgil Blessing is a ranch hand in his 40s to 50s. Virgil is a good-hearted, simple cowboy, like a father to Bo Decker. The actor in this role will be required to play guitar.
