Clubbing in the Conejo
From video makers to fashion shows, these local clubs are tossing out the welcome mat
A variety of Conejo Valley-based clubs will be hosting meetings this month. Among them are the following. • At 9:30 a.m. Fri., April 8, the Westlake Village Encore Club (a social club) will meet at the Westlake Yacht Club, 32123 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village. Residents of Westlake Village are invited to hear guest speaker Robert J. Rebhan discuss "Identity Theft." For further information, call (818) 889-3712 or (805) 495-1549. • At 7:30 p.m. Mon., April 11, the Thousand Oaks Videoma-kers—a club for amateur video makers who share ideas on filming and editing videos—will meet in the community room at Commercial Capital Bank, 973 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. Guest speaker Tony Gomez, associate editor of Camcorder Magazine, will provide a "Heads Up on New Equipment." In addition, a critique will be offered of videos from the club’s contest last month. Noted local area photographer Greg Cooper will provide tips on how to photograph members’ orchids. Call (818) 889-1895 for meeting time. • The Westlake Women’s Club will meet at 10 a.m. Tues., April 12 at the Westlake Village Inn, 31943 Agoura Road, Westlake Village. The meeting features a luncheon ($24) and during dessert guest speaker Mark Sebern will give a demonstration on "Hands Are Quicker than the Eye." Sebern’s clientele includes magic and comedy clubs. For reservations, call (818) 865-1399. • The Thousand Oaks Women’s Connection will present a "Talbots Fashion Show" featuring local realtors during its next meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tues., April 12 at Clarion Palm Garden Hotel, 495 Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park. Guest speaker Vicky Caldwell, a mother and active volunteer, will discuss "Finding Peace in the Midst of the Storms." Musical guest will be Erica Reisser. The cost to attend is $20 and includes lunch; free childcare will be available if a reservation is made by tomorrow, Fri., April 8. For reservations, call Brenda at (805) 497-2949. • The Ventura County Writers Club will host local poet and author Wayne LeVine as its featured speaker at 7 p.m. Tues., April 12 at Borders Books, 125 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. The meeting is free and open to the public. LeVine’s collection of poems, "Forgiveness for Forgotten Dreams," reflect themes of love, loss, sorrow and joy. Following his address there will be a reading of poems by the winners of the club’s poetry contest. Carol Kivo will facilitate an open-mic session at the program’s conclusion.
