Vigorously defends President Bush

This is in response to Samuel M. Rosen’s letter in your March 17 issue.

Why do you keep repeating the Democratic mantra that President Bush lied about Hussein’s WMDs? To lie President Bush had to know in advance that Saddam Hussein did not have them.

If you really believe President Bush lied, then so did John Kerry, John Edwards, the British, French, Russians and the United Nations, who voted unanimously for resolution 1441.

Even President Mubarek of Egypt thought Saddam Hussein had them. And don’t forget Saddam did use mustard gas against the Kurds.

Yes the Medicare bill is a monster and I have problems with government being involved in healthcare period. But name one government program that hasn’t gone over budget. The Democrats are complaining because a Republican administration got the bill passed.

Bill Clinton had eight years in office to get one passed and didn’t. Oh, the Republicans controlled Congress you say? How about the 40 years preceding, when the Democrats controlled both the House and Senate?

On Social Security, President Bush has repeatedly said he’s open to ideas except raising taxes. What plan do the Democrats have? Even Harry Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, said in 1999 that he favors a partial private account for taxpayers. Now he’s against them.

(When) Bill Clinton and Al Gore thought there was a problem with Social Security, I didn’t hear Nancy Pelosi saying "no, no, no" then. The Democrats just don’t want President Bush to get any credit for Social Security reform. Even Alan Greenspan has said that the Social Security system is in trouble.

Are you Democrats waiting until Hillary is elected before you say there is a crisis with Social Security?

What about your children or grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc., who will be paying for the next 20 to 30 years? President Bush’s idea of personal accounts is voluntary. You don’t have to participate if you don’t want to.

And why are the Democrats and some Republicans so against Social Security reform when they have a federal employee system that’s basically a private account for them?

It’s good enough for them but not for us taxpayers. The Congress just doesn’t want to give up control of Social Security funds. And the AARP has many investments in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds and says that it’s a gamble to invest in Wall Street.

What a bunch of hypocrites—you Bush-haters don’t have a solution––you just don’t like anything President Bush says or does.

At least he’s doing something, instead of just talking about it.
