Cal Lutheran’s ScanFest
Barnes & Noble at the Promenade in Westlake Village will help California Lutheran University (CLU) of Thousand Oaks usher in its globally-charged ScanFest with food samples and demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., April 2.
Colorful international flags will be flying at the bookstore at 160 S. Westlake Blvd. as chef Amanda Berg prepares krumkake for sampling from noon to 2 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m., Elizabeth McClure of the Viking Village will demonstrate Viking games, spinning and weaving techniques. Scandinavian artifacts will also be on display.
In celebration of the Scandinavian roots of the Conejo Valley area, the Thousand Oaks Library will have an array of artifacts and photos of local Scandinavian pioneers on display through Mon., April 11.
Other businesses participating in the pre-event celebrations are Eva’s Needlework on Thurs., March 31 and Fri., April 1 and Hawthorne Savings on Thurs. and Fri., April 7 and 8.
The actual festival will be presented from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun., April 9 and 10 on the CLU campus, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. In addition to honoring the university’s Norwegian roots, the festival will pay tribute to the international communities of the world.
Special attractions will include musical performances by Incendio and other musical groups, a Viking Village, the Renaissance-era Swedish Royal Court, Tivoli Gardens for children, a bustling international marketplace and delicious cuisine.
A one-day pass is $10 for adults; children 6 to 18, students, faculty and seniors, $6; children under 6, free. A two-day discount pass is adults, $15; children 6 to 18, students, faculty and seniors, $10; children under 6, free.
