Red Cross lifeguarding, water safety courses offered
The Conejo Recreation and Park District Aquatics Office will conduct an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification course, which includes First Aid and CPR, from 5 to 9 p.m. Fri. through Mon., April 8 through 11.
Students who successfully complete the course receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate and are eligible to work as lifeguards in the aquatics program.
Students must be strong swimmers and at least 15 years old. Registration fee is $175 for in-district residents and $210 for out-of-district. Students must attend all classes in the session to be certified.
Water Safety Instruction (WSI) courses will be offered from April 2 through 26 at various times. Students must be at least 17 years old and able to correctly demonstrate all required swimming strokes.
It is recommended that students obtain lifeguarding certification prior to starting the WSI course. On completion students will receive an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Instructor Candidate Training Certificate and are eligible to work as swim instructors.
Registration fee is $110 for in-district and $132 for out-of-district residents. A $25 book and material fee is due at the first class.
One-day recertification classes in Lifeguard Training will be offered 8 a.m. to noon Sat., April 9 and Sat., May 7. Attending one class renews the certificate for three years. Cost is $40 for in-district and $48 for out-of-district residents. A $35 book fee is payable at the first class.
Recertification classes for CPR are offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, March 31, April 21 and May 26. Attendance at one class renews the CPR certificate for one year. Cost is $25 for in-district and $60 out-of-district residents.
