Bunnies, Easter don’t always mix

As Easter approaches, Pet finder.com, the largest database of homeless pets on the Web, urges parents to think twice about giving rabbits to their children as Easter gifts.

"Certainly there are many rabbits in need of homes, but they are not the right pet for everyone," said Kim Saunders, Petfinder.com director of public relations. "We encourage people to do some research about the special needs of bunnies before adopting. Rabbits are fragile, and young children can inadvertently injure them in the simple act of cuddling. Many people don’t realize that bunnies should be indoor pets and not relegated to a backyard cage. They need special diets and daily exercise to stay healthy."

Saunders added that rabbits make excellent house pets and can be litter-box trained.

Before you adopt one, read more about bunnies and their needs in the Petfinder.com library. Petfinder.com represents more than 8,000 animal welfare organizations and spotlights more than 160,000 homeless pets, including about 4,000 rabbits at any one time.
