One day after the Thousand Oaks girls’ soccer team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Div. II playoffs with a 4-2 win over Highland, both boys’ teams from T.O. and Westlake did the same, winning on Wednesday afternoon against their Div. II opponents in frighteningly similar fashion.

T.O. triumphed 2-1 in an emotion-filled game that pitted Lancer star Jason Leopoldo against his old team from West Torrance. After falling behind 1-0 shortly before halftime, the defending champs responded in the second half with their backs against the wall.

Josh Underwood knotted the game at 1-1 on a goal with 15 minutes left. The senior scored by putting away a loose ball caused by a shot attempt from Leopoldo.

Ten minutes later in storybook fashion Leopoldo delivered the game-winning goal off a through-ball by defender Erik Lauterman. With the victory, T.O. advances to play either Royal or Chaparral. Home-field advantage will be decided by a coin flip.

The Warriors also won 2-1 after falling behind 1-0 early to San Marcos on the road.

Registering clutch goals for Westlake in the final 18 minutes of the game were Kevin Ylauan and Chris Dervin. Dervin’s last-minute, game-winning goal came off a perfectly placed free kick.

With the victory, Westlake advances to play either Temecula Valley or Tesoro in the quarterfinals.
