Rec area closes from rainfall
Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) superintendent Woody Smeck has again announced closure of National Park Service sites throughout the SMMNRA due to recent heavy rains.
The short-term closures are due to safety concerns because of the weather. Trails have eroded, streams have flooded their banks and parking lots are flooded. Additional closures should be expected if the pattern of heavy rains continues.
The public is encouraged to call the National Park Service Visitor Center at (805) 370-2301 to verify whether a site is open or closed. Visitors may also access the web for updates at www.nps.gov/samo.
