The Entrepreneur of the Year awards are designed to honor outstanding entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. McCune was chosen as one of 11 national award winners from a total of 364 regional winners from throughout the United States. Regional winners are selected from more than 3,400 nominations annually.

"I grew up with enthusiasms that became passions," McCune said. "Enthusiasm for learning and community work became passions for scholarly publishing and philanthropy."
