Church Women United to The Conejo Unit of Church Women United will meet at 10:30 a.m. Fri., May 6 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 588 Camino Manzanas, Thousand Oaks, for a service followed by a salad potluck luncheon. The event, "May Friendship Day," is an annual celebration observed as a common worship experience that strengthens and builds friendly relationships within communities. The Celebration worship program, "Living in the Light: True Friends are Salt and Light," examines two pronouncements of Jesus to his followers: "You are the light of the world" and "You are the salt of the earth." These metaphors are expanded in meditation on "Salt and Roots" and on "Light and Wings." Responsive litanies, appropriate music and small group discussions will complete the program. The event also marks the time to celebrate the Fellowship of the Least Coin (FLC), a worldwide movement that seeks to instill peace and reconciliation in families, workplaces, communities, the nation and the world through prayer and the setting aside of the least coin of each nation. Each time a woman prays for peace and reconciliation, she puts her least coin (a penny in the U.S.) in a FLC coin bank. All Christian women are invited to join the group for this Scriptures-based experience. For childcare please call (805) 494-7368. For information, call Audrey Collett at (805) 495-4216. |
