Moorpark forensics team places third The Moorpark College forensics team recently completed another strong season, placing third at this year’s National Championships held in Philadelphia. Last year Moorpark was No. 1. In March, Moorpark won the California State Championships in San Diego, scoring more points than any team in more than 20 years. The team is coached by: Jim Wyman (director of forensics), Rolland Petrello, Jill McCall and Karen Peck Among the medal winners were the following local residents. Simi Valley: Jenny Cariker (Reader’s Theatre, Gold), Kasey Gardner (Team Debate, Gold; Extemporaneous, Silver; Communication Analysis, Bronze), Alan Meck (Team Debate, Silver; Impromptu, Bronze). Newbury Park: Mallory Gompert (Persuasive, Gold; Communication Analysis, Bronze; Informative, Bronze; Speech to Entertain, Bronze). Westlake Village: Mavaddat Javid (Impromptu, Bronze), Leigh Walter (Persuasive, Bronze; Speech to Entertain, Bronze). Calabasas: Alyssa Reinecker (Persuasive, Gold; Reader’s Theatre, Gold; Prose Interpretation, Bronze). Thousand Oaks: Alec Yarbrough (Team Debate, Silver; Impromptu, Bronze). Other team members who competed were Katye Baddeley of Moorpark and Kristen McGrath of Simi Valley. |
