Cops N Jocks to host Battle of the Bands

The National Cops N Jocks Program will hosts its annual countywide "Battle of the Bands" fundraiser 7 p.m. Sat., May 7 at Oxnard High School, 3400 W. Gonzales Road, Oxnard. The event is sponsored in partnership with Ventura County and Oxnard High School.

Bands interested in competing may get an application by calling Cops N Jocks at (805) 655-0062. Only schools in good standing with the Cops N Jocks Program may participate. A band must submit lyrics and have 50 percent of its lineup in a Cops N Jocks school.

The contest offers a $500 main prize and other prizes to the bands. More than 100 prizes and giveaways will be distributed. Celebrities and law enforcement officials will serve as judges.

Proceeds from the band contest will provide high school student scholarships and community forums. Cops N Jocks is a nonprofit community relations program to interface high school students and peace officers. The program also hosts an annual police youth academy in Camarillo.
